Meet Dr. Wendy Wolfson
Founder Dr. Wendy Wolfson is a Board Certified Psychiatrist with offices in both NYC and Connecticut. Her main therapeutic focus is the medical management of mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD and eating disorders. She has come to respect the impact of patients’ lifestyles on their symptoms and recovery. In addition, she believes in the importance of understanding how a patient values wellness in terms of their activity level, diet and the people they surround themselves with. Dr. Wolfson has become fascinated by the potential role food (read about the science behind Mood Eats bars here) can play in helping people to feel better. After reading through countless reports (read some of the real research here), it dawned on her that there must be another way to help people increase their psychological fitness who either didn’t want or couldn’t take medication, or perhaps had no accesses to quality care. Dr. Wolfson thought how great it would be to supply one way for individuals to take charge of their own care, deciding how best to tend to themselves.
As a mom, wife, friend, health nut and then a doctor, she places a lot of value on positive outlook and staying in shape. She also believes that eating well and paying attention to particular needs must come first in order to fight or ward off illness and brain drain. With Mood Eats, Dr. Wolfson aspires to incorporate the natural healing abilities of certain foods to help fight such ailments. “Compelling evidence for nutrition as a crucial factor in the high prevalence and incidence of mental disorders suggests that diet is as important to psychiatry as it is to cardiology, endocrinology, and gastroenterology.” In layman’s terms, the fuel one ingests directly affects the function of, and quite possibly the structure of the brain. Dr. Wolfson aims to provide education about healthy options for maximizing cognitive function. Her bars are just the start.
